Jelly Architecture

I spent another day at the U.E.A but this time we made a city out of jelly. After planning and making the town, we then lit it up as if it were a city at night. I took the opportunity to take some pictures but I think I under estimated how hard it would actually be to produce a decent picture.

my part of the city was on the outskirts and on the coast. I based it on the bustling night life in Ibiza with sand, sea (with a jelly boat), nightclubs, palm tree, plenty of people and lots of hotel accommodation.
This is a good night view of the whole city!

Reflective Log: Lesson on 19/10/2011

Today I finished off some of my sketchbook work. If I'm honest I didn't get much done because of feeling under the weather but I have progressed. I was going to make some solarised images from my negatives but considering I was finding it hard to concentrate probably made it something to do another day.
I do wish I got more done!

Reflective log: Lesson on 12/10/2011

Today I used some of my previous images to take photos in the style of Mari Mahr. I went out to find some objects to make an interesting composition. I found a flower, some berries and I borrowed a lipstick from my teacher. I found a suitible picture and printed it off.

I arranged the objects on the picture so that it was a believable picture with an abstract twist. I used the flower as a parosol, the lipstick was standing against the tree and the berries were apples in the tree.

I wish I had more time to do more but I will do some in my free time and keep my blog posted!

Norwich: Dorothy Bohm Inspired

MY PICTURES:

ABOUT DOROTHY BOHM
"I have spent my lifetime taking photographs. The photograph fulfils my deep need to stop things from disappearing. It makes transience less painful and retains some of the special magic, which I have looked for and found. I have tried to create order out of chaos, to find stability in flux and beauty in the most unlikely places." Dorothy Bohm
This quote is full of meaning for me. In only a few sentences, Bohm has summed up the importance of photography for many photographers including me. If you think her attitude is amazing, you will be blown away by her pictures.

The composition in this photograph is incredible and it is clear she has a natural talent. She has captured so many emotions and so much atmosphere in this one photo that no words are needed to go with it; it speaks for itself.

It also shows that some pictures are better off without colour to be distracting and to give false emotions.

Her pictures have inspired me so much. She had a camera which was of pretty bad quality yet she produced such amazing pictures.

I loved her black and white photos the most so I decided to do a mini project on absence of colour based on her work; a modern Dorothy Bohm

I got on a bus to Norwich city centre, with my camera, to capture some magic moments.

I went to her gallery which was on display in the Sainsbury centre in the University of East Anglia. I could have spent all day looking at her pictures, taking notes and then looking over the whole gallery again. I don’t know why but some of her photos moved me so much.

Reflective log: Lesson on 5/10/2011

Today I made a long 'to-do list' and then developed my film from the camera I took to Pensthorpe and Anglia Square.

Because I hadn't been in the darkroom for a long time, it took me a while to adjust to the concepts. I found all the chemicals but I needed a little help with the timing and measurements. I think I'll be able to do it ALL independently next time because my mind just needed refreshing.

I was a bit put off by how long the process took, altogether, because I had so much other stuff to do but the overall outcome was really good and I'm so glad that I have some really good negatives to work from.
